Driving back from Toronto, today I thought that the 50 km's worth of relief from the 401 would be worth it if only there were some of that West Coast IPA. Well, not only was it there, it was on tap for the growler fill and John was around just before heading out for a 6 hour round trip delivering into the Big Smoke. We had a good old chat about things and I grabbed a couple of these for 15 bucks each including return on the growler.
The beer is a lovely glowing clear orange amber with a thin white rim. At only 5% it is sessionable if I trust the growler but also it has plenty of body and plenty of the hops worthy of the name. The hops are twig and pine - not unlike Buckley's Mixture now that I think of it - with a nice resin finish that goes on and on. Maybe a bit of gin/juniper thing, too. The malt does wonders enriching the hops with plenty of raisin, date and autumn apple. Very chewy. Say that like an old Scots lady and you will get some sense of it.
Strong BAer support. More Church-key goodness here and there.

Great beer! I am sitting at work looking at that great picture and I want to jump in the car and drive to Campbellford.

I would have thought the beautiful furnace room panelling, inherited from the last owner, would have been the real hit of that photo.

At lunch on tuesday at the Manx in Ottawa, Steve B had this as his second pint. I was going to order it as well for my second, but the bartender poured me a second pint of Lug instead. I took it upon myself to sample steves while he was on a call, and it was fantastic.
I will be having myself a full pint of it next time I'm there.
