I wonder some times what the point of this might be, a hobby times two that joins problem writing with a mild and socially acceptable intoxicant. It's late November and there's the promise of sideways sleet for 24 hours so I suppose it is natural to have such thoughts. Once in a while I dip into the archives to see if somewhere in these now 3018 beer blogging posts there might be a trend or even a hint of something I should be recalling to add a little glow to these darkening days before Yule hits in a couple of weeks. Here's a vertical of posts from around this time of year. See what it tells me:
2012: Not Beer: Cherry Tree Hard Cider, Original Sin
2011: An Update On The OCB And The Commentary Wiki
2010: A Trip To Northern New York And All I See Is Beer
2009: Day 10: Even More On Innovation And, Yes, More Photos
2008: Silly Headline: "Beer Adds New Excitement..."
2007: Porter Season: Porter, Okocim, Brzesko, Poland
2006: Photo Contest Winner
2005: Big Hop Bombs: Hop Wallop Ale, Victory Brewing, PA, USA
2004: Buying beer in Quebec
2003: Martyn Wins!
There's a bit of a story arc there, isn't there. Surprised that I've been chatting on line with Martyn for over a decade. There's a co-author from the early days as well as the OCB wiki. Odd drinks and a little snark along the way. There's a classic bit of conversation with Stonch in there. I'd love to have that Okocim porter back in the shops again. Might actually blend well with the cherry cider.
Not sure this tells me anything. It's a bit of a crude commonality, the last week on November from from age 40 to 50. Or is that maybe the point. No good comes of these pre-Yule dreary days. It was the week when in 2009 the ugliest ugly beer photo of all came into my life. There is that.
Next time I data mine I am looking for another way in. Maybe the posts with the greatest letter J uses. Maybe that.
