Just in case you do not read Lew or Troy (which is inexplicable if you are reading this blog) I, too, post this for your consideration:
That is the two-term Premier of the Province of Ontario, Dalton McGuinty. He's released this video statement along with a number of proposals on how our liquor laws might be slackened a notch. Question: why do we only get to grow up "a little"?
The Premier is coming up for election and faces a Progressive Conservative (deal with it Tea Partiers) opponent who has himself brought up things beery in recent public discussion. Note how they place themselves. One speaks to the need to have a "buck-a-beer" level product. The other places himself with craft beer asking us all to try them out... because they are "tasty"! Of course, both are right. Many pals want the light lager grass mowing brown pops. Many others want tasty craft beer. Many want both. Note also the cultural phenomena. No politician in Canada lives long without supporting beer in some form - even if they botch the betting concept no doubt due to the inner angst of the slightly dull, slightly puritan Prime Minister Harper finding himself having to deal with drink and betting in one move.
Now if they could all just get together to place it into grocery stores...

We just had a wonderful family weekend in Montreal. Great beers available in many corner stores. Most eateries and coffee shops also have decent beer taps (my guess is that licensing laws are more reasonable). Somehow, amazingly, the society is not on the bring of collapse and drunken hordes don't roam the streets. The proposed changes to the Ontario alcohol licensing laws are laughable (something about "beer tents" and "all-inclusive packages") and don't address the real issue. The issue being a foreign monopoly controlling 85% of the beer market, leaving us with pathetic selections and indifferent service.
