Did I mention I love crossing the border? Have I ever mentioned that. I know I go on and on about somethings but I am sure I have never mentioned crossing the border. Things noted today include:
- • The Brazilian overlords who now rule 98% of the global beer market have set up displays of "Keith's Nova Scotian Lager" in NNY grocery stores. I could not be bothered to take a photo even though the land up my upbringing spits at this latest insult to a long insulted brand.
- • The Big M in Potsdam is now the Potsdam IGA and continues to sell great beer at great prices. Grabbed the last two of these gems re-establishing that $10.99 plus 27% duty is a good ceiling for the price of a 750 ml bottle of beer.
- • Worked a bit on the concept of a beer and food event for a very good cause. I am thinking about the Chef making fantastic pairings and I will just be abusive about the concept of pairings from a stage as I stand in a white spotlight in a black unitard. Performance art.
- •
Last of all, there is a new beer store on highway 11 just west of the Watertown, Jefferson Co., city limits. Called Bear World... for unclear reasons. A good selection for a new store and - best of all - every single bottle of the good beer is kept in a walk in cooler. Prices a notch higher than at Potsdam but these things level out.
A useful day. The advance of beer as a norm found in grocery stores at affordable prices goes on. Little chance that Keith's will fool anyone in this form. Maybe the grand old man will be given a rest even if not a dignified end.

Is the beer/food thing going to be in Potsdam. Because you could call it the "Potsdam Agreement"

You should pop up. We'll be staying overnight given the clinky not wanting to lead to the clinky.

When?
Alan - April 20, 2011 2:17 PM
Early fall. I will let you know when it starts to look like a real event.

If I have enough warning, I can probably make it. Potsdam is a bit of a hike (about 4 hours from Albany) but I have a good friend from Canton, so maybe he'll tag along.
Don't forget to place your order from my local distributor, Oliver's, too.
Here's some pics, you can drool over:

Now I feel bad. But not reeeeeeeeally bad.
What would you want by way of new stock? I am helping the owner review the wholesale lists as part of the good cause of good beer.

does he send you a list of what's available to him? I've been over there 3 times already from Ottawa and I'm normally pretty happy with what he has on his shelves. (Minus the Stella and Carib etc.) But I'm curious what the possibilities are..

We were looking at geuezes, saisons and wittes for summer.

You know your beer.. as long as its something he hasn't stocked before, I'd be happy.

Regarding Bear World:
Whenever, I go to Kingston from Ottawa from now on, I may have to go via Watertown.
