I had no idea. I was certain I had posted a review of this family favorite but apparently not. It's the 2011 bottling so it's early days but this is one of my favorite subdued takes on barleywine... or barley wine.... or barleywine style ale.
Five ninety-nine for 22 oz. Strong but smooth. Big but not overbearing. There is a lot of bourbon in glass without a barrel soaking. A bit sweet and boozy hot with notes of dry herbs, toffee, vanilla and maybe a little baseball mitt leather. It pours a gorgeous glowing orange with a thin cream rim. On the nose, its woodsy, autumnal. On the finish, lime peel.
BAers give respect.

Never noticed how red that photo makes the fluid. It's more amber orange than that.

Portsmouth is a fun town. Amy and I were up there about 3-1/2 years ago. Red Hook has a facility brewing there, too.
