I am thinking about categories. In the past, I have focused on geography but am wondering if that is the way of the future. I mean do the Canadian or UK entries really need comparing to each other or is there a different way to go. Consider these two photos, each by cell phone camera. Are they not each worthy in their own way of comparison? To the left, Thomas Cizauskas caught a brewer taking a break on a hot and humid July brew day at Clipper City Brewing Company of Baltimore, Maryland. To the right, Nick Liechty also of Baltimore, deals with another sort of heat. The photos are not as sharp perhaps but are moments being caught, the flames or the glance?
Peter Roe of Harvest Alabama sent in this one under the snow and beer category with the message that it was "entitled "Winter Storm". Not much of a winter storm, I know, but that's a lot of snow for Alabama." I wonder why no one has tried for the baby and snow and beer category yet? Maybe there is one in the background somewhere.
Mike Irrea of Boston, Massachusetts sent in these five entries, including a contender in the baby with beer category taken at the Lake Placid Pub and Brewery at Lake Placid, NY. The photo to the right is "the hop "offering" in front of the altar during the triennial Hoppefeesten at the Sint Bertinuskerk, Poperinge, Belgium":
Knut of Norway, he of the blog, sent in these three. I like the one to the left particularly given my obsession with beer stores and the differences in each jurisdiction. How'd he get to pour that beer?
Finally for today, Sean Inman of Glendale, California and proprietor of Beer Search Party sends in these two photo. The one to the left was taken at this years Stone Brewing anniversary festival in San Marcos, California ![]()
and the one to the right was a double helping of the taster flight at the newly opened Bruery Provisions in Orange, California.
More later. Maybe I will catch up on those prizes. More generous offering have come in. More to follow I am sure.

I was waiting for Simon in the Paris beer shop to get me a taxi. (Which was, btw, impossible)- I spotted this in the fridge. It was a warm day..

I think only a Norwegian can appreciate the full extent of a Canadian's envy at that explanation.
