I have no idea how long this beer has been in the stash. Paid $4.69 if that is any hint. Its full name is Foonf Zane Auld Ale Anniversary Small Batch. Not sure which of Atlantic Brewing's anniversaries - though the BAers are telling me it was the 15th back in 2006. So, sort of Nederlands meets Scotland meets me four years ago. I can live with that.
Delightful. Light chestnut ale under a thin rim and froth of mocha. In the mouth and on the nose, the malt has that beef broth thing that you find in Thomas Hardy but in much lighter form, swishily mixing with tangerine juiciness with maybe a little apple. Toffee, too, as well as a little sour and maybe a little smoke but also moreish from that bright acidity. I wonder if it is holding up or if it's the swan song as it is a bit watery near the end - a bit of a revelation in a +7% brew. One loving Alström spoke of "full body" and "a mouthful of malt" back in August 2006. Not thin by any stretch but no longer as hefty as that would imply. A heavy yeasty glom sits at the bottom of the bomber. Maybe it's all down there.
We should all age so well.

Not sure they were doing the small batch series that far back. It only hit my radar last year, and I have been stopping through the brewery for a few years now...
