There has been a lot of buzz the last few days over the next topic for the next monthly version of The Session to be hosted at Girl Likes Beer:
I would like you to pick your favorite beer made east form your hometown but east enough that it is already in a different country. It can be from the closest country or from the furthest. Explain why do you like this beer. What is the coolest stereotype associated with the country the beer comes from (of course according to you)? And one more thing. If you do a video or picture of the beer (not obligatory of course) try to include the flag of the country.
I like this idea... and not because the USA is the country to the east of me. Too many of the topics for the session are not really about the beer. But this one forces you to find a beer and report upon it. Sort of a Where's Waldo for we sub-semi-dipsomaniacs. But I want to make it more of an effort so suggest the following as the advanced version, a bit of extreme sessioning:
- Get a world map and a ruler and a single die... as in dice.
- Take the map and place the ruler upon it exactly east-west. Lay it in a latitudinarian fashion, if you will. Place the left end of the rule on your town.
- Roll the die and observe the number.
- Take that number and the rule and the map and count that many countries exactly to the east.
- Find a beer from that country and review it.
Are there alternatives? Maybe forget the dice rolling and find the brewery that most nearly is to your east on an exact latitudinal direction. What would that mean for me? Or perhaps find a beer with "east" in the label in that next eastern land. No, that deviates from the original excellent directions too much. One needn't try to improve even if one enhances, right?
Look, I have already prodded Stan in this direction and think he has to find a beer from Morocco if he were to roll the dice and get "one"... which he couldn't be he could if he rolls a die. And not this one. Me, I get France if I roll 2 and Italy if it is a 3. 'S'truth! Here's the map if you don't believe me.
Why move to extreme sessioning? Why not? What else are you going to do on October 2nd anyway?

What happens if this imaginary line crosses a country twice. Does it get counted twice? I rolled a 6, so that could be Russia or Mongolia (the latter if Russia cannot be counted twice)... I think I'll roll again.
