I had a Het Anker Margriet after supper, a beer that is on the shelves in Ontario at a incredibly reasonable price for the quality. With the Red Sox winning their last Saturday night regular season game of 2009, I wanted something more. And then I remembered that the good people at Roland and Russell had mailed me one of Margriet's solid siblings
Plum, fig, date, Thompson raisin, HP sauce and every other dark edible thing you can imagine is in the profile of this friend in need. I would even call it beefy. There is a big spiced cream thing happening in the middle of all that winter storage fruit flavour and grainy backbone, the sort of thing that give a beer a sense of wonder - like Yule itself. Lame? Cheesy summation? I think not.
You want to be able to be able to pull out a case of this one day some holiday season. You really do. Friends will thank you. Acquaintances will admire you. Plenty of BAer love.
