Soon Obama will be having his moment of beer. People are arguing about whether it is good for a President to have beer and question which beer he chose. As a Canadian, I really don't care. Our problem is that we have the first Prime Minister in years who might not like beer. For a Canadian politician to openly speak against beer would be political suicide.
But in brotherhood with the great political affirmation that beer make bonds, I thought I would have a beer at the same time and picked the new Kellerbier from Creemore Springs. It's more apt than you might think as I have had my moments with Creemore. I said bad things about Creemore. Yet Creemore courts me. At least one brewer is a fan of A Good Beer Blog, has built a fun email relationship and arranged to have the truck deliver me a box of eight. I met that box and Warren, Creemore's driver for the Kingston to Peterborough run, this morning at an LCBO parking lot. Cheery words and beer were passed and we parted ways. You know, I used to have feel ill will about New Hampshire, too, but love it now.
The beer has gotten rave reviews. My experience with the style is limited to five Kellerbiers and so can't hold a candle to Mr. B's experience so lean heavily on his praise for the stylistic context. But to hell with style. It's a great beer at a great price. A cloudy orange caramel under white rim and foam with a candy apple peach aroma. In the mouth it is soft with some metallic/weed bitterness and plenty of lagered pale and slightly malt goodness - nutty and fruited. The Creemore yeast twang that I don't like in their other beers is there, too, but in this beer it is balanced and takes a place.
I like. I hope Obama's beer goes as well.
