You can see I am not even in Michigan anymore - you see that, right? - but this beer is so good it is interstate. I bought a six of Bellaire Brown for $9.99 at Wacky's Party Store that forms part of the Dark Horse compound in Marshall, Michigan - just about half an hour's drive north of the Indiana border. 250 miles south of Elk Rapids. I had a sense of this when I saw no Rapids nearby. I saw no elk.
This is brown beer like you wished it was like. It's says "a classic American brown ale" on the label but if this is classic then most US browns are wandering in the desert sands somewhere in Mongolia. Unlike most US browns, this one is not over hopped. It isn't really hopped. It has plenty of graininess, figgy cocoa date notes from the malt as well as that chalky thing from either the water or the yeast or both that makes browns so moreish when they are right. This one is right. There is even a slight sour tang that may be from what hops there are. Short's Brewing should be proud of this beer. BAers know the love.
