For all the big talk, I really have only scratched the surface of beer...if you could, you know, scratch a fluid. This is my first De Dolle Brouwers, whose history and directions web page gives a sense of their attitude: they are a wee bit mad. But good mad.
Oerbier was apparently their student homebrew. It pours a deep chestnut with a fine tan froth and rim. Malt and cherry and nutmeg nosewise, in the mouth there is a lovely lactobacterially instigated tartness supported by brown sugar, nut as well as cherry and apple fruit with a little something like a molasses note in the finish. Bright, cheery and a pleasure to drink. An impossible 9.5% strong, the BAers give it top rankin'. My kind of sour beer, this cost $3.99 USD from Tully's last spring.

It is a sobering thought that you can only ever scratch the surface of all the beer in the world !

They have truly amazing beers - a pity many of them are so hard to find.

My wife just picked this up the other day and asked what it was, but we had no idea.
