Oh, man. So this is how it's going to be, eh?
Next round is on Alan at A Good Beer Blog, who should be announcing April's theme soon.Soon? Soon??? I am stumped - not that one style is all there is but which style goes with April? Remember this, ye who scoff:
April is the cruelest month, breedingStouts are winter brew in this sense. Made of blackened grain - perhaps the last leavings of the hoard for the long dark season. So what is the beer for the time of the great melt, the mustering of will that it takes to plant again?
Lilacs out of the dead land, mixing
Memory and desire, stirring
Dull roots with spring rain.
Winter kept us warm, covering
Earth in forgetful snow, feeding
A little life with dried tubers.
Soon.

Bock? It has traditionally been brewed for Easter, so should be quite appropriate for April's theme. :)

Good point - I need more information on that "brewed for Easter" element.

Yes, I was going to recommend Bock, also. Spring beer!

Just make sure it's a style that we can get in Ontario, Alan. Which cuts it down to, like, five styles or something. Meh.

I know. I am thinking a number of things but accessibility is a big factor. Maybe I will just do stout again!

Easter?
Maybe a religious theme. Since the first doppelbock was brewed by the Paulaner monks to sustain them through Lent, or so the story goes, doppels might be a starting point.
That would open it up to other beers brewed in monasteries, former monasteries and for monasteries.
And in the interest of religous freedom, balance, whatever, you could provide the option of choosing a devil beer - Duvel, Lucifer, etc.
Just a suggestion.

Alan,
Bocks are a great choice. We've done a few shows (10 actually) around them, and are always up for more. The doppelbocks especially. It's the cultured lager. :) . Plus a lot of breweries are just now releasing their lenten offerings. We spoke to Larry Bell from Bells Brewing and he has the Consecrator Doppelbock coming out this month. Lots more I'm sure popping up around the country.
