I have had this in the stash for a while, a 6.7% Belgian brown with the sub-title on the label "Pierre Celis Signature Selection." Nope, I don't know either...but Rick Lyke over at Lyke2Drink had a word last year with Pierre Celis and explains the whole selection thing. And it's made by those crafty chaps who make St. Bernardus in dear old Watou...ahh, for the days of Watou.
Anyway, a rich deep tan head over ale which sits at the line between deep caramel and light mahogany. Very spiced yeast, oddly all spice and cinnamon - but also buttery ice creamy creamy. It reminds me of another beer but I can't trigger the recollection of which one it is. That drives me nuts. Plenty of date and late autumn apple in the broad malty profile. Bright and comforting. Pumpkin pie even. Maybe that is it. It has many of the flavours of my mother's pumpkin pie - without the pumpkin. How odd. But lovely. And I appreciate you would not appreciate that as much as me but flavour and memory do have that thing going on. But, then, a tobacco note at the end, just a hint stabilizing the sweetish finish. De-lish. Yet there are issues amongst the BAer's. One Alstrom denies Michael Jackson's beer of the year finding, calling it the driest beer he's had. No way - but we did not share a bottle so who really knows. Otherwise, only 4% of BAers say no.
Bit ther's nae 'baccy in ma Sco-ats Mither's pie, ye ken!
