Sometimes beer news is not really news about beer at all. One would imagine that were this to be learned about common suckweed or the meadowblort, this would not be news at all:
Japanese researchers are reporting that hops, which give beer its bitter taste, are effective in mitigating various symptoms of hay fever, it has been learned. While hops were known to be effective for the treatment of tumors, the joint research found for the first time that they also are effective for alleviating the symptoms of some types of hay fever. It is the ever present "beer ingredient good for you" news item which is unlike yet very like the ever present story of the man who goes to jail for years over some beer related dispute such as the lifting of six of them from a store or the placement of one of them through some other chap's head. But in this case, at least, there is hope that my decongestant or asprin will one day come in a choice of Fuggles or Goldings.
