This one slipped through the lines care of the National Beer Policy (NBP) in which the free amongst us share beer without regard to inter-provincial borders. Wild Rose Brewery of Calgary is rebuilding its website but, according to the BAers, they have a pretty strong line up.
It pours a smart light straw ale with a pinkish hue under a snow white foamy rim. On the nose there is dry raspberry as well as something else...that reminds me of something. The taste is fresh, brightly acidic, a very light skim milk core, some pale grassy wheat graininess and that raspberry. Very nice. Subtle and, speaking as someone who has had over 125 raspberry plants to his name, more accurately raspberryish than a lot of this bunch of flavoured brews, though there is a fair bit of citric acid in there, too. No flavoured beer is going to change the world but, at 4.5%, for a summer Saturday afternoon, pretty good accompaniment for a baseball game on the radio. Hey - clouded finish! It's alive.

Wraspberry is a fine beer for summertime - August 3, 2011 8:11 PM
This is a really nice tasting beer that even sits well with those that aren't typically beer drinkers. The raspberry flavour is significant and allows the beer to be savoured for its fresh summery flavours. The defunct Behr Brewery of Kamloops had a Black Bear (Blackberry Alve) that was a favourite and this comes second to that for me. Summertime!
