Happy Oktoberfest, all!
Today I made the above soup and also beef roulade.
Ingredients:First, brown the sausage over medium heat in a pot after adding a small amount of butter or veggie oil; remove once browned. Add butter to the pot and then the onions. When onions become translucent, add garlic and soften. Slice the pork off the bone and dice meat. Cook lentils separately. Add pilsner, broth, smoked pork (including bones) and sausage and simmer (simmer simmer simmer, boiling is verboten!) covered for 30 minutes. Add kale and lentils and simmer uncovered, until tender for 5 to 7 minutes. Season with salt and pepper. Serves 8-10.
2 smoked pork chops
3" kielbasa sausage
3 tbsp salted butter
5 garlic cloves, minced
1.5 cups chopped Spanish onion
1 cup lentils
3 cups Pilsner
3 cups chicken stock
1 bunch fresh kale (remove stem and fibrous centre of leaf, unless you have the constitution of a billy goat)
I used König Pilsener as an ingredient, and also as an accompanying beverage. I also sweetened the broth with some apple juice. A hearty and yummy way to help celebrate Oktoberfest, Enjoy!
