Short of naming me The President of Beer, this is one office in the public service that I could take on with a clear conscience:
In Washington state, where the brewpub craze was launched two decades ago, craft brewers have created a new state-sanctioned commission to better market their beers to consumers. The group will represent licensed breweries that produce less than 100,000 barrels annually per location. With 84 microbreweries, Washington trails just California and Colorado. The commission may be the first state-sanctioned promotional group for craft brewers...It appears this is a marketing board created with the support of the industry and indicates that the state is willing to treat craft beer as an agricultural product, sort of like New York is doing in baby steps with its state beer trail announced this year.
Good economics and good law. But maybe I need to think more about being President of Beer.
