The 11th anniversary release from one of my favorite brewers in the eastern Lake Ontario region, Middle Ages Brewing of Syracuse, NY. You can read about my long term relationship with this brewer under some of the links you can find here.
This beer pours a golden straw with a massive frothy off white head. Incredibly light ale for 8.5% with no heat in the mouth, though some in the belly. Plenty of spring and summer floral fruit - apricot, yellow plum, lemon - and plenty of bright acid from slightly subdued but still grapefruit-y rind-y hops. Juicy but also with a credible graininess to the malt. The lack of wheat grassiness is replaced by all that fruit is an interesting thing as is the nice watery center. Like a Double IPA Lite - which of course makes no sense. But I like it even if it makes no sense.
Some BAers are not pleased, with a 6% rejection rate but I just don't see the issue. The brewery's own informal web poll shows it running #2 of all their many brands.

We'll be reviewing this one soon. Maybe we shake this one out a bit and build consensus.

It is that time of the year to think about what to drink; Happy New Year!

I was a fan of the 10th anniversary release, a big 10% with a strong hop flavor. I had the 11th anniversary brew on a tour of the Middle Ages Brewery (a must if you are in the Syracuse area) and I was happy that it was a little more of a drinking beer than the 10th.
