A Good Beer Blog

Have you read The Unbearable Nonsense of Craft Beer - A Rant in Nine Acts by Alan and Max yet? It's out on Kindle as well as Lulu.

Maureen Ogle said this about the book: "... immensely readable, sometimes slightly surreal rumination on beer in general and craft beer in particular. Funny, witty, but most important: Smart. The beer geeks will likely get all cranky about it, but Alan and Max are the masters of cranky..."

Ron Pattinson said: "I'm in a rather odd situation. Because I appear in the book. A fictional version of me. It's a weird feeling."

Is there even such a thing as "Russian beer"? Perhaps it's a simple subliminal dose of economic protectionism -- "How unpatriotic of you to drink German, British or -- gasp! -- American beer! Here, have some proud Russian vodka instead!"

Oh, there would be but whether there are indigenous styles left is unlikely. In the last year Brew Your Own magazine when in search of Baltic porters and found few of that venerable style left. In Dostoyevsky there is reference to kvass, a bread brew, but I don't think that is commercially made. I stand to be corrected.
